Preference for RP?

I prefer forums! Unless I'm specifically doing a TTRPG like Dnd. Those I prefer to do in person or via Discord/Roll 20.

Forums are definitely preferrable. I've done through discord and chat before, and even a shared word doc - but forums I feel like give you the atmosphere almost like you're somewhere else. With the different boards, graphics and such. Also, I like the community that some sites have, that usually boosts my muse being able to chat with the people that are around me, even if we don't have characters interacting.

 

I like doing them on forums. Though back in the day I loved doing them through instant messagers.

I prefer forums, but I have done a Fair bit through Google docs too. It's not ideal but works in a pinch.

 

I prefer forums but find the accessibility on discord overwhelming. I've had instances where other players feel entitled to your time on there even though I'm also in other servers. Where as forums have that separation of being on or off the forum.

 

Forums make it so neat and I personally love being able to read other people's work

 

I've only done forum rp, and the other types don't appeal to me as much.

 

I come from an MMORPG (WoW/XIV) roleplay background, however, I have been RPing on forums since 2015 and never really looked back and prefer them to everything else by far. The slower pace and chance to write longer posts than on a game are so lovely, and I can read what other people are doing story-wise as well. That being said, I have done a few short Discord RPs with friends - and before that, AIM ;) Showing my age a little there, haha!

Definitely forums for me as well. I've tried IMs and sat in on some MMO RP before, but there's something about live RP that makes me put too much pressure on myself.

 

Yes! I feel like the busier life gets, Forums really do allow for a lot of accessibility to keep doing what you love to do.

 

I love meatspace/VTT RP. The energy of playing off an active party in realtime is unique, and even realtime discord-text RP can't replace it, but I like forum RP most of all. You can really dig deep into the motivations and internal dialogue of a character, and use text to set beautiful scenes and describe actions in more depth than you can in a time-limited meatspace situation.

Plus, when you have forums that have been around for years and have 5+ years of interactions/events/relationships etc stretching back that far, having a written record to refer to can be a lifesaver! XD

 

I prefer forum. I feel like it's easier to keep track of everything character related and for my writing. I've done it over discord and would again. One time I did over email and I didn't like it at all.

 

i love forums. i love the formality of them, the individual themes, and the disconnect from myself as a roleplayer that i just can't get in discord rps

 

for better or for worse I'm a forum girl through and through, I can't see myself doing anything else unfortunately. I know discord has gotten popular, but I just don't think I can do it LOL

 

Forum first, table top in person is second. Although I adore the spontaneity of sitting around a table (or on the floor sprawled out) with a live session (and the pizza!), I prefer forum role play because I can craft my fiction at my own pace, while interacting with other people. The ridiculous out of left field (WTF, What am I going to do with THAT?) energy is what separates role playing from simple creative fiction. And I don't have to get anxiety about committing to a specific schedule to get into my character's head. Sometimes life gets in the way. But a forum is great because it's a lot easier to catch up if I miss some time between postings, and I don't have to scroll endlessly through the chat log history to figure out where I left off.
