How did you get started with roleplaying?

Discussion in 'Role-Play Discussion' started by Daenelia, Aug 25, 2013.

  1. A game called FeralHeart really got me started on it. I started back in 2012, and didn't even know what I was doing until I picked it back up in January of this year. I recently quit playing the game and I now focus on roleplaying via forums.

I started roleplaying on roblox. Some friends were into it and dragged me in. I liked it and joined some other RPGs. I made a lot of friends, many of whom I still chat with.

I started on a Xena RP and from then on have been addicted haha. I started when rps literally had a thread for every location in a board and you had to post at the end of the post -character leaves room and goes into loungeroom- kind of thing. Was a big change going to this new way.

For me it was actually a pretty random experience I was literally just browsing the web one day and stumble across a site called RPGold, and since that fateful day five, almost six years ago I was hooked lol.

I started in high school when there was a lull between Harry Potter books and I needed my magical fix. I ended up with a two characters and I huge story arch that went on for two years before it came to a definitive conclusion.

I started to RP online when I was about 13. Found an MMORPG called Reign of Blood, and yeah PvP, training, etc. are a big part of the game, but that's where I met people who taught me how and what RP is. Since then I've become a multi-para RPer and I have a ton of characters. I liked to write even before that, so that helped fuel the interest I had to even start.

I stumbled on it purely coincidentally... In 2005 I had this lame school assignment where I had to 'research' something of my choice and write a paper/give a short speech on it. I had been recycling this assigment (as it got assigned almost every year) and just updating with new sources - so I did my assignment on wolf behavior EVERY TIME.

Stumbled on Souls rpg (back then it was called Bleeding Souls, back on Ezboards lol) and was hooked. I immediately joined and rped for a bit, though I was a total noob. I ended up dabbling over there for a bit, but moved on for another fantasy rp (though I'm still a huge fan of Souls and stalk as a guest from time to time).

Strangely enough, yahoo user chats and neopets boards. I was terrible. My first characters were so sue and I couldn't write more than a couple sentences to save my life. I'm ashamed. Thankfully, I improved greatly from where I started.

  11. I think for me (embarrassing as it is), I started out on Neopets. At least from what I can remember xD I've been role-playing more years than I can count and it gets hard to keep track of everywhere I've been!

I started on a place called Vaxia in about 2001-ish. I then upgraded to IRC and spent years there at a FreeFormRPG (not to be confused with final fantasy) medieval tavern. Now i'm on a different server but still IRC based.

I started role playing on Neopets nearly 11 years ago. At first, it was just Teen Titans and Warriors cats. Hey, I was 10. :P

Well I'm an old lady..so back in the day Yahoo used to have Chat Rooms and thats where I started. In their Arts and Entertainment area and in their Teen section lol. The Vampire Tavern was hott there when userrooms were allowed ;) oh and some places in their Romance section. Bots, mostly the porn kind, took over so they closed down the chat rooms. I moved then to Ayenee forum rpgs and it kind of branced off from there lol :)

Oh my lord, I started RPing like eight years ago, on a Facebook app for star wars. Now that site lives on as Jedi versus sith, and I've moved on to make my very own RP site! It's always amazing how these things change our lives. Even here, among people I've never met, I feel at home - these are my people.

I got started a few years ago because I wanted a good Harry Potter game and I stumbled upon a forum RPG. Since then I have been hooked!

An art site I was heavily involved in decided to have an RP using the character we had created through our art. I instantly loved it, especially making threads with friends I knew. Ever since then, I'd participated in a few RPs and acted as staff at times. Started my own RP now at this point.

  19. Oddly enough, Anime was my gateway. Then just random RPs of the general sort. I haven't done a fandom in years, but that is only because I haven't found anyone that can pull off my favorite characters well. |D The anime that got me started was Inuyasha and the Naruto. Then it went from there.

  20. I started on... Yahoo Clubs before they were groups. I think my first was a Sailor Moon one. I could be mistaken. It's been awhile. My wolf rp obsession however? That started on Furcadia in a Dream called The Glade. I miss those days. But I also don't. Is that weird? I especially miss playing Birthmark the Vureli. It wasn't a real wolf however since well... I was following the /fad/ of those days. Otherwise your real wolf was toast. Tell you this though, they did not like purple wolves and just wanted to kill kill KILL. And instead of them using proper English, they used all the scientific words and thesaurus humping they could to the point I let one of my characters die because it was like a foreign language. Because I was a newbie on that. I quickly learned to ask for a synopsis in plain English. That wasn't even my IC character, it was my OOC character while I was checking the place out.

Forum role-plays are so much more fun and while they have their share of problems too, at times, they are far from being horrific as some of those people in those dreams could be. They required a response reply rp right then and there. You were literally put on the spot. And they wouldn't even let your character escape so you didn't have to give them /permission/ to kill your character. They just could. All the power-playing and god-modding OMG. Sure they said their was one way to get out of it, but they wouldn't say what that way was. It was just... insane. So forums? one-on-one with someone you trust in an IM? Soooo much better. And easier to make sure everyone is following the rules.
