I almost always get a domain name for my sites. It isn't that expensive (usually) and looks more professional. I also think it shows a certain amount of commitment? As opposed to a generic jcink or whatnot.

  2. I always do for a clean and professional look, but I don't think it's mandatory. I know many people can't afford something like that and it can be difficult for minors.

I have one for my self-hosted forum. It's really cheap for an annual payment, and for me sort of mandatory because my forums are subdomains of my personal website, and for obvious reasons I don't want my personal website link in the same url as my forum haha. That being said I don't judge sites either way for whether or not they have a domain name. If anything it just looks cleaner imo.

I've had a domain for my site since the beginning of it. Been keeping it up and active for over 2.5 years. I like that it gets you more notice on Google when programmed right.

I wouldn't for two reasons. If the game bombs, then I'm stuck with the domain until it expires, and once it expires, it's like impossible to get back if for whatever reason the game gets restarted. But also, I'd rather not be locked into a specific name. What if I want to run mulitple games? Or I get tired of the setting/genre? Having something not-as-niche allows me adapt, change, and grow as needed without being boxed in.
