Time has have passed since we last saw the Crawleys, and a lot has changed.
Upstairs, both Mary and Edith are recently wedded and are settling into their married lives. Robert and Violet are both seeking to understand their new role with the changing times, and Cora is busy with the hospital. A romance seems to be in cards for the newly returned Tom Branson, and Isobel is enjoying her days with Lord Merton. Rose and Atticus have started a family and couldn't be happier.
Downstairs, Thomas Barrow has succeeded Carson as Downton's new butler; while he's busy filling the giant shoes left by the former butler, Carson is finding it difficult to sit still and enjoy retirement. This dynamic is ever tiring for Elsie Carson, who might also think about retirement soon. Anna and Bates finally have their baby and all is well with them; meanwhile, things in the kitchen might start to heat up between Daisy and Andrew. Molesley has just begun his new career as a teacher, and there seems to be more to his friendship with Baxter, just as there is between Mrs. Patmore and Mr. Mason.
