The year is 2005. Life in the wizarding world is slowly receding to the level of normalcy it maintained during Voldemort's missing years, and life is relatively peaceful. Of course, the magical community still blames the Ministry of Magic for how the Second War was handled. Many do not trust that the Daily Prophet would report any current threats and now live in a constant state of vigilance, convinced that a new Dark Lord is rising.
Life at Hogwarts has normalized - if you don't count the Aurors that have been stationed there to protect staff and students alike. Not everyone is happy with the change; there is tension between the Aurors and teachers as their different authorities clash, and some Aurors resent guarding a school where nothing happens other than underage mischief. It's hopeful that in time, Hogwarts will return to a place where students are allowed to roam freely but for now, this is the best the Ministry of Magic can offer.
While most of the main participants of the war were killed in the final battle - Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, to name a few - many witches and wizards have done their best to put the massacre behind them. After all, who wants to be reminded of the reign of terror that had struck fear into the hearts of even the bravest of wizards?
