How do you choose a thread title?

My rule of thumb is "when in doubt, pun it out".

Alternatively, I think of something that fits the characters or setting. One of my thread titles is currently "The Cat and the Assassin" and another is "What Happens Next".

I can't speak for the members when they start a story thread. For mine, if try to stick with the main idea of the story. Although I have had one player who pushes to have the story title changed by what she writes.

I usually use something I make up, or something relevant to the thread, or, a fair bit actually, song lyrics. For me, it doesn't have to be super relevant, since you don't know where you'll end up once you start writing, but they do help pretty nicely with setting the opening mood!

I usually pick some puns if nothing else works. Usually, though, I'll try to spin up something that suits the current situation. If there's a zombie apocalypse? Undead Block Party. A powerful raid on cybernetic pirates? Bringing the Hurricane. An RP involving closing up an interuniversal tear? Cruxis' Plumbing Services.

I did a bar n grille one with the pun, "Bar None, Grille All."

I have so many methods of choosing thread titles anymore, haha xD I do song titles, different lyrics, game titles, quotes, puns, wordplay, random things, relevant titles, irrelevant titles... basically anything that comes to mind LOL

My girlfriend usually does song titles for her RP titles. Sometimes I lean in the same direction if I have a song that has something to do with the plot at hand IE "Devour," "My Town," etc...

I usually find a song that fits the theme of the post and make my thread title a lyric from the song

I use something random. If I'm listening to music, I use a random piece of lyrics that could work and base the post off of that. Works every time for me. XD

If not I try to find something pun-worthy or hilarious.

I sometimes go for a double entendre or play on words that is descriptive of the RP. For example, an RP involving a Hobbit wanting to get rich finding a genie...The Short Con.

Titling threads can be really hit or miss for me! I tend to find names somehow for all my threads, though I rarely have a title in mind before I've finished writing the opener. That isn't to say I always have a title. I have a thread that is literally titled "Awesome Title Pending"... it never did get a real title lol

Honestly I'm weak to dumb puns. (Seriously there is something wrong with me.) Or something creative and funny, but i prefer ones that make sense to what I'm writing and what the thread is kinda going to be about. For example I used Do you like Jazz? (Which is a dumb meme if someone doesn't know, terrible I know) for a couple of characters meeting in a jazz bar. It was dumb honestly but me and the other roleplayer got a kick out of it.

Something vague and fake-deep will do, haha.

This is something that I picked up from somebody else, but I've ended up using song lyrics for a lot of my thread titles as of late. Helps a lot when you can't come up with anything witty on your own.

I tend to use song lyrics, puns, lines of poetry, and whatever else sounds good at the time. Naming threads is hard.

I am also guilty of this. Sometimes, it's just random lyrics that pop into my head; other times, I actually search for something a little more relevant.

This depends on the character I'm writing... I get into patterns. Almost always it is related to the plot of the thread; not just random, but becomes a play on words from something I write in the first post. I do love making titles!

One character... always puns or something related to the amusing side of the plot... aaand reference horses, because most of the threads he is in come off as comedies and he's obsessed with his horse.

Another one I will use more poetic descriptions; he's a deep, idyllic sort of guy who gets heavy into the balladry. His threads are always all drama.

The other main character usually has starters that are a full punctuated sentence and have "!" Because she is simply excitable and wordy, and they're always describing an action!

I'm a random lyrics person... well... not so much random, I tend to find a song that reflects what's going through ym characters head in the starter a pick a lyric that fits... or I come up with something poetic that sounds like it might be a song lyric... sometimes it's neither of those things.

I tend to use song titles or lyrics. I always have a million song lyrics swimming around in my head so I might as well put them to use. I also try to put a little bit of humor or puns into my thread titles. It is the first thing a player will see so I try to set the right mood for when they go to read the actual post.

If something does not come to mind immediately, then I usually head to a search engine for lyrics or quotes that have to do with the overall theme of the thread.
