Do you have a news or announcement board that has an RSS feed attached to it? Have you ever considered setting up automated announcements?

Side note: I'm considering letting site admins add an RSS feed to their listings so that their game thread will be automatically updated whenever their site is updated.

Yes I do, and yes I did. On SMF I am using twitter feed and a tweak to the rss to automatically update twitter and our facebook page with any new posts in our Events forum to shine line on player made events. (Also reminds me that I've got to set one up for our announcements forum.)

As much as I love working on my site, sometimes the added bonus of having something automated is a real help. As for posting RSS here, I'm not sure. I'd be worried about defunct boards not caught early enough filling the feeds with ads for Viagra :p

Oh, spam abuse is always a risk. With the system I have planned it should be fairly minimal. RSS feeds would likely only be fetched twice a day, and all new posts would be dropped into the moderation queue for approval. If any spam did happen to leak through accidentally, it would be limited to that site's discussion thread. Easy to clean up. :)

We have a feed for released mission logs, but not for news. We mostly use the news for internal stuff. We feed the mission logs rss into our twitter though.

CoSC uses the default mediawiki RSS for changes. So it reports character edits and (with the new forum) the latest posts.
