    THIS WEEK IN COSC...

This week has been characterized by subtle progress on the projects to let us move forward with the character sheet project that will lead to improved game history. Players like Sahena and Fae~o~the~Wind have been going above and beyond to help with Legacy Code Removal projects. Without players like them who help out around the game we would never get to make improvements to our software for character management. Thank you guys!

New players have also arrived, including a few who are jumping feet first into the game! Boneclaw, Mistysplash, and Ryast89: Welcome to our fold. We look forward to seeing you In Character and hope that you'll be able to take that step soon!

New Adoptable Characters have been added to the rolls from many of the clans, so if players are looking for an easy way to dive into a new clan there are options. Additionally, many of these characters are available through our "Easement" program to new players! Including Kits and Apprentices!

This is a few days late... I've been a strange combination of sick and busy since the weekend...

    THIS WEEK IN COSC...
    Week of 1 October 2013

We still have some exciting progress happening IC as we head towards what will be the final moon of the Desperate Times plot. Soon prey will be restored to the forest and the snows of winter will be gone! Cats are falling ill due to hunger and the cold. It's led to some interesting threads like this one in which Owlfeather (newly adopted by Sahena) falls ill with a cough and her Kitten, Cedarkit grows upset as she heads towards the medicine cat's den. Less exciting and more depressing is the disaster in WindClan, in which a den collapsed under the weight of blizzard snows and two cats died.

Of our newer players Ryast89 has already been approved to head IC with Crowkit, whom they adopted. As soon as I'm done writing this I'll be heading over and Mistysplash should also be ready to be set loose IC with her new character Amberstorm. Boneclaw has adopted a character and is just a few edits away! Even newer than them is Axlescourge, who is making very good progress! We love new faces and are excepted to see so many buckling down and getting ready to join is in character!

Legacy Code removal so that the character sheets can be improved further is going very well. Just 80 characters that need the old birthday code removed! Thank you Sahena for all your help! Additionally, Fae~o~the~Wind has almost singlehandedly eliminated the old version name history pages and gotten tons of them updated. With just 19 left, that project will be concluded in no time at all! CoSC wouldn't run half so smoothly if it wasn't for the effort of members like these!

Now... I have a timeline to advance! See you next week!

    THIS WEEK IN COSC
    Week of 7 October 2013
Can I just say that it's an awesome morning? As of today longtime member of CoSC, Fae~o~the~Wind was promoted to a Junior Staff Member. We use a system in which a player applies, and the existing staff deliberates. Our OOC Ranks are tied to IC ones for all but the Administrative Level. So a lot of factors all need to line up to put a person on the staff.

Now, to more practical things: Nothing very exciting to report as far as new membership goes. Everything is pretty normal. Though in the business of old membership, Kazul has stepped down from her staff position and is in the process of culling her character list. She's staying with the game, but life just isn't permitting her the level of involvement that she once had. It's sad to see her leave staff, but we're just happy to she gets to stay on with us.

In the Legacy Code department: Fae is now done with Name history removal. Just as predicted last week. We owe her so much for her efforts. You can see why she was welcomed warmly to the staff. Sahena also finished her project. Now character sheet development will be able to move forward, including some improvements to tracking and game history that have been held up for ages. Expect updates on those changes next week!

And finally, the most important matter: Role Play. I'm just going to talk about a couple of interesting threads and not bore you too much.
Hopefully there will be even more interesting news next week!

    THIS WEEK IN COSC
    Week of 14 October 2013

Yep. Another week in which I'm totally late putting this up. I got distracted working on some template improvements for the site and then completely spaced doing this once I got home. So now you have to put up with me being late. And this has been a good week. The CoSC AIM Group Chat (CoSCChat) has been active as all get out. We're happy to have the opportunity to hang out casually as a group. If any new prospective members want to, they should shoot me a message and you can have an invite to ask questions and see what's up.

Now, on to regular type things... Version 2.4.0 of the character sheet has been published. We've also been doing some behind the scenes work and some functions that broke during the changeover are back. Canon pages are now listing all (instead of intermittently listing) when characters underwent name changes are ceremonies for clan cats. In the coming weeks we will be adding better support for recording what group the change actually happened in, and adding in support for recordkeeping for non-clan cats of all types.

As always, RP is happening, but I'm going to not talk too much about it, in hopes that we can push together an interesting Medicine Cat's Meeting to talk to you about in the next post. That and I don't have time to dig through (none of my personal threads are that interesting this week) and find threads I wasn't involved in to show off. I may have slacked off all weekened instead of getting ahead at work... and now I have today to make sure I can take my D&D day off ;) Catch you next week, in hopes that there are some interesting threads for you to have a look at!

I'd like to start with an apology. I had some family issues that required my attention and posting here ended up being completely sidelined. I'm back, though. and things should be good to go.

    THIS WEEK IN COSC
    Week of 25 October 2013
I am pleased to say that things continue to go well. We've had lots of Activity on AIM, and if someone has questions, they could use AIM (or our Guest Enabled chatterbox forum) to ask a questions and see what our members are like.

In coding news, the improved Canon pages are underway, though a small transition in code has to happen before the new version can be launched. Some errors in automated history recording have been fixed, and within the next week or so we should be launching the new canon tracking for Clans. After that, we'll start getting non-clan canon tracking (something that has never been stellar for us) improved, and follow that up with tracking for the Cats of Camelot and Caligula's Cabal. We expect things will be fully launched by the end of the year!

In RP, we have Court in Session for the Cats of Camelot. Court sessions are very important as IC is the only way to join the CoC, and Pen only accepts petitioners during Court sessions. Even more important is that it's the first appearance of his offspring publicly since the christening!
We also have an unusual thread: Heronflight and Hailpaw are together to check on the healing progress of Crowkit! Not a lot of people take the time to RP out sickness in this fandom, so it's always great to see the MCs and MCAs get to work.
And the last thread I'll talk about this week... The Medicine Cat's Meeting is underway for the moon. It's always fun to see the MCs together, and WindClan's new Medicine Cat Apprentice is there to meet StarClan for the first time!

These last two weeks have been interesting at CoSC, and we hope hearing about it has made you interested in joining! If you have any questions, feel free to post right on this thread and I'll answer away.

I just realized that I hadn't posted here. I know I've been slacking on making a weekly post, but life for me always goes nuts around the holidays (though we have an awesome new player that I should mention! Arro's just got an adopted character through apps and is ready to head IC!).

Anyways... On the 25th of November CoSC turned 8 years old.

As of the 1st we entered a brand new plot period called "A Chance to Breathe" as a bit of a wind-down from the Desperate Times and Illness plots that accompanied the winter. It'll be awhile before we ramp back up into another world plot, but the Staff is kicking around ideas and should start laying the groundwork soon enough.

I'll do a proper run down of some of the best threads from the previous IC Moon (Melting Waters) over this coming weekend. We hope to have an exciting year here at CoSC, and we have some promotions coming up, and there should be a new litter early in 2014! So there's plenty to look forward to!

    THIS WEEK IN COSC
    Week of 7 December 2013
I really haven't been writing enough of these posts where I talk about what's going, but things have been very busy in my Real Life and taking the time to type these up has been hard. I've been at least trying to pop in for quick updates on big events (like the Moon Change and site Birthday). I might just do these intermittently as I have been... Though I do like the regularity of weekly updates...

We've had some adoptions, and some great threads recently. So I'm going to highlight some of our newer interesting threads and we'll go from there!

    · Desperate Times: A Spotted Ghost; WC on SC, 16MW09
    · Training: Time to Give Chase; TC, 18MW09
    · Patrol: South Fields Hunting Patrol; TC, 26MW09

Things are also being wrapped up, as First Fishing (the moon that started on the 1st of December) will be the final moon in which we kill off characters with the illness plot. But this does mean that during the course of this week, when I update the bans list, lots and lots of things should open up and there should be a ton of extra room for new and exciting characters to replace the long-term adoptables and cats deemed unadoptable! So that's a good thing!

We continue to have tons of open ranks, but we're hoping continued advertising and building up of the game's player base will result in that get fixed. If you're interested in playing a cat of rank, now is a great time to join. We only look for a month of involvement from you before you're eligible!

Also in OOC news, there is an ongoing mission to put together a litter for ThunderClan, which hasn't had one in some time. There is a lead being chased on that front, but it'll be awhile before we see kits from that litter. Cats of Camelot Court is still in session, but it will be closing soon. If you're interested in joining and getting involved in that thread, you'll want to do so quickly. We do have a few adoptable cats in the CoC, so now is a good time.

I haven't done a CoSC Update in ages... But this one is still going to be quick.

The forum attached to the MediaWiki that we use (AWC Forum) became defunct and we've been forced to migrate software. Unfortunately, we're still searching about the sort that out. The forum we had to switch to has no support for a group specific forum access, so there are some complications with the ability for staff to plan plots. Or at least there will be when we hit a point in software advancement where the old forum does not work at all...

I'll post some IC news soon.
