i>It didn't happen all at once; the war between Mutants and Humans. But after the Purifiers publicly crucified Warren Worthington, it was only a matter if time before the mutants found the resources to mount a counterstrike. No one expected they’d attack the Pentagon. The massacre was, to put it lightly, bigger than 911. The mutant containment team Division responded to the invasion. In a last ditch effort, they used one of their light-bombs took out the Pentagon and everything in the surrounding area for a three mile radius in the blink of an eye. Nothing left there now but a charred pit.

Now you need a license and a nano-implantation if you want any kind of a normal life; least here in the US. They put you through a polygraph, shoot you up with this crap that gets into your bloodstream… little microscopic bugs or something, I dunno the science is over my head. Me. I'm off the grid. Off the grid is harder. Obviously. Now sure, I've heard word of recruiting; on both sides - but I want nothing to do with it. S’why I went and moved myself out of the country.

Places like Canada and France, they’ll let you live there without stickin’ a tracker up your butt - if you agree to taking Ratifivant. It’s a new fangled drug - decreases your x-factor. Sadly it’s twice as addictive as heroin and if you try to go cold turkey, well… let’s just say you won’t get to hide being a mutant for very long. Plus I’ve heard the withdrawal sickness is worse than dying.

The good news is, the future is always changing; in the largest of ways, by the smallest of things. They’ve been winning a lot of battles. Now it’s our turn to win the war. - - - anonymous mutant, 2032

Post World War III
The golden age of the Legendary X-Men is over, and the world is poorer for it. The world as we know it is the dystopian aftermath of the war between man and mutant. Most of the eastern seaboard is a hot zone, uninhabitable by mutants or humans. New York is a shell of its former self, but has been in the front running in regards to rebuilding. Voer the last five years the White House and a number of other important governmental buildings have been re-established in Tennessee. The group called Division, along with the US Military head up the Mutant Control Enforcement Agency. Their strives toward restoring the peace, while comforting to humans, have been received by the mutant community as less than benign.

But New York wasn’t the only thing to rise from the ashes. The scattered descants of the X-Men of the past are slowly rejuvenating the infamous Xavier Institute in a secret location in Ohio. Along with it the team of mutants who long fought for equality and justice. Granted there are plenty of mutants who want nothing to do with conforming to the new world view. Some of them have gone off the grid, living double lives. Others have taken a less than noble path toward anarchy and a viewpoint that rationalizes breaking man’s law. Still there is always the option of leaving the US for a country that has enacted the Ratifivant clause. Canada or France for example, have open boarders for mutants so long as they agree to a regiment of the x-factor reducing drug. Considering Canada’s strictly and carefully watched over food and drug regulations you have to wonder how many people were paid to look the other way.

Sadly Muir Island has become Division’s major hub for a mutant containment prison. With nicknames ranging from Hell Island or Murder Island all the way down to Purgatory. It was designed to indefinitely hold those whose powers keep them indestructible. Mutants like Deadpool. Last word regarding that merc with a mouth, he was in a medical coma under 24 hour surveillance. Division’s fingers have infiltrated many long respected agencies and companies, rendering places like Stark Industries shadows of their former selves. S.I. is now the front runners in manufacturing Omega Hunters. Super advanced mutant hunting robots who scour the United States looking for mutants gone rogue for extermination or imprisonment.

There is little that can be done to escape the watchful eye of Division once you’ve gotten yourself onto their radar. Unless you know where to look that is.
