If so, do you use them often? Have you ever run a contest using them? Have you noticed Facebook becoming less and less effective (as they move further toward a paid model of contacting your followers/subscribers)?

I don't use the FB page much at all. It's almost like an Alumni club. The Twitter I use for quick little updates that I think might matter. and it provides an easy to find/follow way in which I can get news out if there is an outage with our server.

Don't use Facebook, as have been getting better interactions through Twitter and Google+.

    For my site, I have:
    - twitter
    - tumblr
    - google plus
    - youtube (if you want to count this as social network site...)
    - deviant-art (if you want to count this as a social network site...)

I refuse to go anywhere near facebook (for a few reasons) so I'm not going to be getting an account with them.

Even though I have those accounts though, I don't use them nearly as much as I should.

Yes, I have twitter, tumblr, facebook and a monthly newsletter which gets published on site, sent the link on e-mail and also published on twitter, tumblr, facebook.

I have youtube and deviant art group too.

  6. We haven't really gotten any boost from Tumblr but we have one... I have thought of a Twitter but so far haven't made one.

I've only recently begun advertising efforts for the SIM as our group puts an emphasis on each ship/base doing so and it's probably the one thing I am worst at. Part of this was starting up a facebook page, I'm still not sure about the effectiveness but I am hopeful that a random cartoon or thought-provocating image might at least get another log or draw a wandering eye. If so then I'd have to say that it worked :)

We have a twitter account, and used hoot suite to feed the rss from our Nova for released mission logs into it. In addition to that, I try to make tweets and RT related to star trek, writing, and rpg from time to time.

You should also make a short ad for twitter, linking to your site, and submit it to the so called "pimps" which are actually RPG promoters. They publish your ad and it gets seen by their 300+ followers.

Where do I find out about these rpg promoters?

On Twitter, search for RPG Pimps, this is how they call themselves

We're very much in the same boat with you here. We have a Tumblr but it's not got very much on it at the moment. I was contemplating starting a Twitter account but wasn't sure whether it would be worth it.

Now, if I did start a Twitter account this will be exceptionally useful. Thank you for the advice!

@Archaeon , put on tumblr your site ad, character wanted ads, your site's gossip column/ chronicles, spotlight characters and posts, but do it regularly. Also set the tumblr to post on twitter and FB equally, so when you post once, it gets to several people/ media.

But, more important than this, again, having tumblr and following the RPG tumblr directories and the RPH (tumblr RP helpers) who do promotions (because not all do) and shout-outs, you can launch every week (or more often if you have time) ads to these directories and helpers. Because these are seen by everybody interested.

I've got a Facebook page, a Twitter, and a Tumblr for Star Army (also a sadly neglected Chirbit, which is like Twitter for audio recordings). I mostly use the Facebook page (for broadcasts) and Twitter (conversationally). I mainly just post art on the Tumblr.

We just got a Twitter. We're posting updates a couple of times a day through there -- featured Wanted ads, quotes of the day, etc. I think it's sort of a fun place to do those sort of feature-y things.

I've got a FB, Twitter, Tumblr, and YouTube

This year, 2018, FB ability to deliver traction to a website fell below Organic Search. We may see FB cutting some costs to try and incentivize people to focus on their platform again but with this + Cambridge Analytica scandal, I think we'll see it dropping off

At the moment it remains the best of the social media to advertise on if you are going Premium. If you have an advertising budget, FB ads have the best tools and largest number of users

If you're going free, I suggest Twitter
