The Territories

The world we used to know is now gone, replaced with the land masses of the future. We find ourselves somewhere after the nuclear winter, after the polar floods, and after the plates shifted to make new continents. We can't know for sure where these wolves have made their home, but in the winter it is bitter cold, and some summer days are fair and beautiful. So we may find ourselves somewhere along the coasts of what was once Southern Europe, lands that kiss both the tepid tritoatlantic waters and a much more sinister northern breeze...

The Packs
The Cry, the Watchers, and the Sorrows make for diverse holders in the territory of the Three Rivers Sound. The Cry, called shreikthroats by their neighbors, are divided by an ancestral split that keeps the Dred and Dire caste separate and inequal. Joining could mean the loss of their gifts, but staying in this limbo could mean suffering for the Dred, and even war. The Sorrows call the rain with the mournful pleas, but none came until the shamanic Vitas of the desert clans spilled blood - but who is next to go to the gods for just one more scrap of meat as the herds return? And our faithful Watchers, with their raucous of paws beating the ground as they howl and dance - but in the sullen faces of each is a growing fear of their home, or at least the things that seem to haunt them, the stalkers in the dark, waiting...

The Gifts
Long held are the rituals of the packs, and well-known are the traditions of the First Ones. They were a megapack that came from times before individual memory to the Sound, however their stories are taught even now to each passing generation. These retellings speak of the five gods of the wolves, The Flying Mother, the Horned Father, and the Sun and Daughter - whom are what created the Brothers and Sisters - all living things. However, there is another God, lost to the darkness beyond the sky and the stars. Moon, the harbinger of all wolves and who sees the past, present, and future as his Silver Eye, the only part of him that remains, which watches over the fates of the world. These gods are important in all packs, but certain ones are more important than in others. As a result, each pack has certain gifts which may be inherited, or crop up in the most unlikely of pups. From breathing fire to slinging quills like a gosh danged porcupine, the gifts are the very mutations from exposure to radiation that has unlocked their genetic code and allowed them to survive.

The Flora and Fauna
Don't think for a moment that the wolves were the only ones with mutations. Animals in this new world have undergone various mutations as well, from the dangerous kick of a hare, to the worries of coming across a spitting forest spider. Bears are monstrosities that have spawned legends amongst the wolves, and even a lowly dragonfly will get as big as the length of one's foreleg. Nature has thrived in the centuries since mankind's disappearance, and it shows in the trees growing taller and thicker than ever before. Oxygen levels and nitrogen in the atmosphere have made drastic changes to what we see in the Three Rivers Sound. As a rule of thumb, anything can be deadly, from a hunting expedition to a dip in the water, as some sea creatures have become real-life leviathans.
