The world as Clary knew it has changed; there are Vampires, Werewolves, Warlocks, Fairies, Demons and Shadowhunters. Shadowhunters have spent their lives defending the earth against demons and any creatures that cause harm to humans, even if the Shadowhunting realm seems to look down on the humans. Now Clary has found herself caught up in the world of danger and fighting, always one peril after another.
In the midst of all this Valentine is slowly putting his plans into action, determined to make his wishes come true and get rid of the Downworlders once and for all. Though very little seems to have been done, thus not alerting the Clave to any strange activity, he is slowly gathering allegiances with those who agree with his views and actions.
Another problem the Clave have yet to find out was the use of a fake Mortal Cup, one designed to be similar to the first, in order to create more Shadowhunters. It was tested on numerous people about fifteen years ago and most of them were very young, too young to remember anything. More mundanes will be able to see the Shadow world even though the Shadow world would rather they not.
More demons are sprouting up in New York, meaning more work for the Shadowhunters. Luckily for Jace, Alec and Isabelle some new Shadowhunters are being sent to the New York Institute to assist them. With these new Shadowhunters, Valentine's plans are going to be a little trickier, though he always has good counter-measures. The Shadowhunters have a tough challenge to meet. Will they prevail or will they and the Clave have to give into Valentine's commands?
